OVERVIEW
SLK recognizes the immediate benefits and long-range
benefits of students learning a foreign language. Research
shows that in general, students learning a foreign language
attain greater academic achievement in other areas of
study. Moreover, they have a greater awareness and deeper
understanding of other cultures. For adults, learning
a foreign language opens up career opportunities on
a global scale. Our classes are designed not only to
help students learn the foreign language but to understand
how the language is connected to the culture of the
country where the language is spoken.
-Foreign Language Playgroups for English Speakers
Children learn to speak through delightful experiences
of discovery and through repeated exposure to language
forms and patterns. SLK’s Foreign Language Play Group
for English Speakers is designed to provide a small,
learning environment for students, ages 3-6, to give
them this experience. Our small group setting allows
students to build language skills with confidence as
they interact with teachers and peers - the perfect
environment for a foreign language student! Each class
covers language objectives for a particular topic, and
is designed to meet each student’s language needs through
play, song, and hands-on activities. Students who actively
participate in class and practice at home will be able
to actively use new vocabulary to communicate in a foreign
language. In addition, Playgroup students will be equipped
with some of the following basic skills:
BASIC
